Georgios I. Zervakis (PhD) is Professor in Mycology, and Head at the Laboratory of General and Agricultural Microbiology, in the Department of Crop Science, Agricultural University of Athens, Greece.
His current activities and research interests could be summarized as follows: ecology, diversity and molecular phylogeny of fungi with emphasis on Basidiomycota and larger Ascomycota (order Pezizales); mushroom breeding and cultivation, evaluation of nutritional/dietetic/functional properties of edible fungal biomass; biodegradation, bioconversion and valorization of agro-industrial residues/by-products and synthetic polymers through the use of selected microorganisms (e.g., white-rot fungi).
