The Department’s funding is derived from national and European sources and constitutes the primary driving force for conducting research, supporting researchers’ salaries, and enhancing and maintaining the scientific equipment of the Department’s laboratories.
Indicatively, in 2023, the total number of research projects in which members of the Department participated as partners or coordinators reached 215, with a total budget of approximately €16.2 million, representing a significant increase compared to previous years. A substantial proportion of these projects involve European or nationally co-funded projects, as illustrated in the figure below.
