Division of Vegetable Production Floriculture & Landscape Architecture
The Division of Vegetable Production, Floriculture and Landscape Architecture was founded in 2002 (Government Gazette 148B/12.02.2002). It consists of two laboratories which were established in 1978 (PD no. 92 FEK 19A/ 17.02.1978):
- Laboratory of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture
- Laboratory of Vegetable Production
The Division of Vegetable Production, Floriculture and Landscape Architecture coordinates the teaching of part of the objectives of the Department of Crop Science (DCS) of the Agricultural University that corresponds to the science fields of the two specializations of the Undergraduate Program Study (UPS) of the 9th semester of the DCS: "Vegetable Production” and “Floriculture and Landscape Architecture”.
The Postgraduate Programme Studies (PPS) of the Department of Crop Science with subjects related to the Section are entitled:
"Landscape Architecture" which a two-year Postgraduate Programme Study, accredited by the European Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA Europe).
"Cutting-Edge Sectors and Innovative Applications in the Production and Maintenance of Horticultural and Floricultural Species " specializing in "Soilless Culture - Tissue Culture, Hydroponics, Nurseries" and "Quality - Postharvest Biology and Technology of Fruits, Vegetables and Flowers"
"Cultivations under Cover – Hydroponics " which is an inter-institutional Postgraduate Programme Study between the Hellenic Open University and the Agricultural University of Athens.
The Division employs seven members of Teaching Research Staff and two members of Laboratory Teaching Staff.
Laboratory of Floriculture & Landscape Architecture
Director : Professor Maria Papafotiou
Objectives:
The objectives of the Floriculture and Landscape Architecture Laboratory is the teaching and research in:
Cultivation techniques of all important floricultural species for Greece, both outdoors and grrnhouse, soilless cultivation, applied physiology of plant growth and production, propagation-micropropagation methods, post-harvest handling and physiology of products after harvest, flower arranging, introduction of new species into cultivation, as well as biology, cultivation and management of lawns.
The theoretical and applied approach to landscape design in urban, agricultural and forest environments, the preparation of studies for the installation of greenery in parks, sports facilities, gardens, etc., the restoration of landscape damage from major technical projects (road construction, etc.), the regeneration and utilization of degraded areas (landfills, quarries, etc.), with the aim of integrating them into the natural environment and the preparation of environmental impact studies.
Infrastructure and equipment:
The Floriculture & Landscape Architecture Laboratory is housed in the Krimpa Building and possess a botanical garden-flower nursery, two greenhouses with automations, an experimental field, experimental green roofs, a fully equipped tissue culture laboratory, a soil analysis laboratory, plant growth cabinets (5), a liquid chromatograph (HPLC-DAD), a high-speed and temperature-controlled centrifuge, laboratoty dryers (3), a stereoscope, a microscope, a sound level meter, sensors for determining and recording soil moisture, a porometer, automatic recorders of temperature and relative humidity of air and soil, a CO2 recorder, a portable chlorophyll fluorescence measuring instrument, a chlorophyll meter (SPAD), leaf area measurement software, a sonar, an NDVI index meter, a LAI leaf area index meter, field and garden maintenance tools and machinery, various smaller instruments, as well as two (2) classrooms –design studio equipped with all the required audiovisual teaching equipment, computers with design software, plotters, color printers and a photocopier.

Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
