Duration of Studies
Undergraduate studies at the Department of Crop Science last ten (10) semesters (5 academic years).
Each semester includes thirteen (13) full weeks of teaching (lectures, laboratory exercises, seminars, tutorials) and four (4) weeks of examinations.

Applied Physiology and Biotechnology of Microorganisms: The core of this specialization is the teaching of advanced topics in Plant and Microorganism Biology, with emphasis on their interactions within agroecosystems and the development of high-interest biotechnological applications. The focus is on a deeper understanding of the mechanisms governing the function of plant and microbial organisms, as well as their exploitation toward the production of value-added products. The aim is to broaden and deepen the students’ biological background and familiarize them with advanced techniques in plant and microorganism identification, molecular biology, and biotechnology as applied in agricultural production and the sustainable management of plant and microbial biomass.
Floriculture and Landscape Architecture: Specialized knowledge is provided on the propagation and cultivation - either outdoors or in greenhouses - of species and varieties of floricultural plants, both for cut flower production and for use in landscape gardening (herbaceous, shrub, and tree species). Knowledge is also provided in garden and park design and development, including both planning and creation.
Agronomy and Plant Breeding: This specialization offers knowledge on field crops and their improvement. The cultivation of cereals, legumes, forage and industrial crops are the main categories covered. Both traditional and modern methods used for plant breeding are taught, with the aim of improving crops and developing new, more resilient and productive varieties. Special topics in Agricultural Experimentation are also included.
Pomology and Viticulture: Specialized knowledge is provided on fruit tree species and grapevine. Their biology, cultivation practices, and various associated challenges are among the many scientific areas covered in this specialization..
Vegetable Crops: This specialization covers the scientific field of vegetable crop production, which deals with the entire chain of production and postharvest handling of vegetables. The category of vegetables mainly includes annual but also perennial herbaceous plants cultivated for the production of fresh, frozen, or canned plant-based food rich in cellular juice, minerals, vitamins, and dietary fiber.
Plant Protection and Environment: Knowledge is provided in the areas of plant pathology, entomology and zoology, agricultural pharmacology, beekeeping, and sericulture, as well as environmental science and protection. The diseases of plants, insects, and other animal pests affecting crops, stored agricultural products, and even homes are described, along with the problems they cause and methods for controlling them. Beekeeping and sericulture are studied in terms of management, diseases, and products. The harmonious and balanced functioning of species from the animal and plant kingdoms within different ecosystems is also examined.
The Degree thesis is the culmination of the educational process of the Department of Crop Science. Its completion is mandatory for obtaining the degree and participates in all the teaching units of the curriculum with a total of 30 ECTS. During its completion, the student is trained, under the guidance of the Supervisor - a faculty member of the Department, with the aim of a more complete approach to a scientific question that is directly related to the subjects treated by the Department. The number of degree theses offered and their topics are determined under the responsibility of each supervisor. A prerequisite for the assignment of a degree thesis topic is the successful completion of the educational process of the first eight semesters of the curriculum. As an exception, a thesis may be assigned to students who have failed a maximum of three courses (theories and laboratories) of the first eight semesters. The preparation of the thesis provides a multitude of learning benefits and contributes to the development of scientific skills. Students can develop their own initiatives, come into contact with international bibliography, function as members of a scientific team and get in contact with the research process.
The Supervisor, in addition to the scientific guidance of the student, is responsible towards the Department for the observance of the various procedures, with the aim of the smooth development and completion of the thesis. The thesis is prepared, submitted and supported individually by each student before the Three-member Examination Committee, which also carries out the final evaluation of the thesis. The thesis is presented and evaluated on a date set by the examination committee.
The purpose of the degree study is to gain experience from students in scientific and technical recording, problem solving, research methodology, the design and implementation of scientific methods and/or tools, and the writing of a scientific text resulting from a research effort, based on rules and guidelines of excellence as have been reflected by the international scientific community.
The Internship constitutes an important activity of Higher Education, as it is a fundamental way of connecting theory with practice and actively contributes both to the utilization and consolidation of the knowledge, abilities, and skills acquired within the framework of the Study Programs, and to the smooth integration of students into the labor market.
The Internship of students may be carried out in public services, Legal Entities of Public Law, Local Government Organizations of first and second degree, Legal Entities of Private Law, and businesses, hereinafter referred to as “Host Organizations,” under the guidance of a Supervisor from the Host Organization and under the supervision of a faculty member of the Study Program. The Internship may also be carried out in Host Organizations abroad, only through the ERASMUS+ program. The duration of the Internship (student presence at the Host Organization) is determined according to the Department’s Internship Regulation, corresponds to at least two (2) calendar months of full-time employment, and may be implemented consecutively. Following the new Departmental Regulations regarding the Internship (Summer 2025), students who at that time were registered to the 10th semester and higher are required to complete an Internship of four months’ duration.
The period of implementation of the internship is defined according to the Department’s Internship Regulation and is carried out in the 10th semester of the Department’s Study Program (for the Department of Forestry, the internship is implemented in the 8th semester). Students who are in the final stage of completing their degree may carry out the Internship throughout the entire year.
The Internship falls under the General Directorate of Administrative Services, Directorate of Studies & Student Welfare. Funding of the Internship through the Special Account for Research Funds (SARG) via co-financed programs (INTERNSHIP THROUGH NSRF-National Strategic Reference Framework).
Within the framework of the Action entitled: “Internship of Higher Education of the Agricultural University of Athens,” under the Operational Program “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation” of the Partnership Agreement for the Development Framework 2021–2027, the students of the Institution have the opportunity to complete their Internship in organizations of the private and public sector. Periodically, the SARG Internship Office issues announcements regarding the available positions per Department of Studies and semester, the deadlines and the method of submitting expressions of interest by students, as well as the criteria for student selection. Funding of the Internship by the Host Organization
Provided that it is allowed by the internal Internship Regulation of the Department, there is the possibility for the Internship to be funded directly by the Host Organization. For more information, both the students and the Host Organization may contact the Internship Office, in order to discuss details regarding the posting of the relevant announcement and to receive details regarding the procedure that will be followed.
Internship Through ERASMUS+
The Erasmus+ program funds students to carry out an internship in a host organization abroad, with a mobility duration from two (2) to four (4) months and a monthly grant, the amount of which is determined depending on the host country. The Erasmus Internship may be implemented in member states of the European Union.

Postgraduate
This is a two-year, postgraduate programme leading to the award of the Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) degree.
The programme is recognised by the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA).

The curriculum consists of 19 courses, combining theoretical instruction, design studios, project-based work, and the completion of a Master’s thesis.

The specific Master’s Program (MSc) “Landscape Architecture” operated until 31 December 2019, with a duration of two (2) full calendar years.
Agro-Biotechnology of Plants and Microorganisms of Agricultural Importance
The Department of Crop Science of the School of Agricultural Production, Infrastructure and Environment of the Agricultural University of Athens organized and operated, from the academic year 2014–2015, a Master’s Program entitled “Agro-Biotechnology of Plants and Microorganisms of Agricultural Importance,” in accordance with the provisions of this decision and the provisions of Law 3685/2008 (Government Gazette 148/A).
This specific Master’s Program operated until 31 December 2018, with a duration of two (2) semesters.
The Program awarded a Master’s Degree (MSc) in “Agro-Biotechnology of Plants and Microorganisms of Agricultural Importance.”
The Program admitted graduates of University Departments in Greece and of equivalent recognized institutions abroad, as well as graduates of Technological Educational Institutes (TEI) in related fields of study.
Plant–Rhizosphere–Soil: Integrated Nutrient Management of Cultivated Plants
The specific Master’s Program (MSc) operated during the academic years 2022–2023 and 2023–2024. It awarded a Master’s Degree (MSc) in the scientific field “Plant–Rhizosphere–Soil: Integrated Nutrient Management of Cultivated Plants,” as a unified program without specializations (120 ECTS). Included a study program with a duration of two (2) full calendar years.

Erasmus +
Το Γεωπονικό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών υλοποιεί προγράμματα ανταλλαγής φοιτητών και προσωπικού, μεταξύ των οποίων επικρατέστερο είναι το Ευρωπαϊκό Πρόγραμμα ERASMUS+/ ΚΑ1:: Μαθησιακή Κινητικότητα Ατόμων.
Το Τμήμα Επιστήμης Φυτικής Παραγωγής συμμετέχει ενεργά στο Πρόγραμμα ERASMUS+.
Στο πλαίσιο αυτό έχει υπογράψει διμερείς συμφωνίες με ΑΕΙ που εδρεύουν στις χώρες του Προγράμματος, κατάλογος των οποίων είναι διαθέσιμος εδώ.
Μέσω των διμερών αυτών συμφωνιών, γίνονται ετησίως ανταλλαγές φοιτητών με σκοπό τις σπουδές και προσωπικού με σκοπό τη διδασκαλία. Για την διευκόλυνση των ανταλλαγών, τα μέλη ΔΕΠ του Τμήματος προσφέρουν μαθήματα στην αγγλική γλώσσα αποκλειστικά για τους φοιτητές ERASMUS που έρχονται από το εξωτερικό. Ο κατάλογος των μαθημάτων αυτών επικαιροποιείται τακτικά και είναι διαθέσιμος εδώ.
Το Πρόγραμμα ERASMUS+ επιχορηγεί επίσης ανταλλαγές φοιτητών για πρακτική εξάσκηση και προσωπικού για επιμόρφωση σε φορείς του εξωτερικού. Οι φοιτητές και τα μέλη του προσωπικού του Τμήματος συμμετέχουν ενεργά και στις δράσεις αυτές.

2) Πώς εξειδικεύονται οι σπουδές μου;
Αντικείμενο του Τμήματος ΕΦΠ είναι η ποιοτική και ποσοτική βελτίωση της φυτικής παραγωγής, ιδιαίτερα στην αειφορική και ολοκληρωμένη διαχείριση που συνάδει με την προστασία του περιβάλλοντος και η διεξαγωγή έρευνας για την ανάπτυξη σύγχρονης τεχνογνωσίας και τεχνολογίας που αφορά κυρίως τα φυτά, τα έντομα και τους μικροοργανισμούς. Στόχος του Τμήματος ΕΦΠ είναι να σου παρέχει υψηλό επίπεδο επιστημονικής γνώσης, ώστε να ανταπεξέλθεις με επιτυχία ως αυριανός επιστήμονας στις σύγχρονες απαιτήσεις της Ελληνικής γεωργίας και της παγκόσμιας οικονομίας.
Το Τμήμα ΕΦΠ σου παρέχει θεωρητική και πρακτική εκπαίδευση σε θέματα:
α) Καρποφόρων Δέντρων και Αμπέλου (αμπελογραφία, αμπελοκομία, δενδροκομία, τεχνικές καλλιέργειας, φυσιολογία θρέψης, φυτοπροστασία, κα),
β) Φυτών Μεγάλης Καλλιέργειας (αροτραίες καλλιέργειες, βιομηχανικά, ενεργειακά, αρωματικά και φαρμακευτικά φυτά, φυσιολογία θρέψης, φυτοπροστασία, αξιολόγηση γενετικού υλικού, βιολογική γεωργία, βιολογία και καταπολέμηση ζιζανίων, κα),
γ) Κηπευτικών και Ανθοκομικών Καλλιεργειών (λαχανοκομικά, λαχανευόμενα και ανθοκομικά είδη, τεχνικές καλλιέργειας, υδροπονικές καλλιέργειες, φυσιολογία ανάπτυξης και παραγωγής, κα),
δ) Αρχιτεκτονικής του Τοπίου (καλλιέργεια και διαχείριση χλοταπήτων, μελέτες εγκατάστασης πρασίνου, σχεδιασμός γεωργικού, δασικού, αστικού τοπίου, κα),
ε) Γενετικής Βελτίωσης των Φυτών και Γεωργικού Πειραματισμού (αξιοποίηση και διαχείριση φυτογενετικών πόρων, ανάπτυξη σύγχρονων μεθόδων γενετικής βελτίωσης φυτών, δημιουργία και ταυτοποίηση ποικιλιών με νέες μοριακές και βιοτεχνολογικές μεθόδους, κυτταρογενετική και μοριακή γενετική μηχανική, ανάπτυξη και εφαρμογή νέων πειραματικών μεθόδων),
στ) Μελέτης και Αντιμετώπισης Ζωικών Εχθρών και Ασθενειών των Φυτών (βιολογία, οικολογία επιδημιολογία, διάγνωση και αντιμετώπιση φυτοπαρασίτων, γεωργική φαρμακολογία, χημική, βιολογική και ολοκληρωμένη αντιμετώπιση φυτοπαρασίτων, κα),
ζ) Μελέτης παραγωγικών εντόμων (Σηροτροφία-Μελισσοκομία) καθώς και μελέτης σχετικής με την χρήση των εντόμων αυτών στην ανθρώπινη διατροφή και την Ιατρική.
η) Οικολογίας και Προστασίας του Περιβάλλοντος (οικοτοξικολογία, οικοφυσιολογία, επιπτώσεις ατμοσφαιρικής ρύπανσης, ποσοτική οικολογία, κ.α.),
θ) Μικροβιολογίας (Γενικής, Γεωργικής και Περιβαλλοντικής) και ειδικότερα βιοποικιλότητας, ταξινομικής, φυλογενετικής, οικολογίας, μορφολογίας και φυσιολογίας μικροοργανισμών, των αλληλεπιδράσεων τους με φυτά και ζώα, όπως και με αντικείμενα βιοχημείας, μοριακής βιολογίας και βιοτεχνολογίας μικροοργανισμών και της αξιοποίησης τους μέσω της ανάπτυξης σχετικών εφαρμογών (π.χ. καλλιέργεια μανιταριών, παραγωγή μικροβιακών εμβολίων και εδώδιμης μικροβιακής βιομάζας, ολοκληρωμένη διαχείριση γεωργικών και αγροβιομηχανικών αποβλήτων).
Οι επιστημονικές δραστηριότητες του Τμήματος ΕΦΠ συνδέονται με τα προβλήματα και τις προοπτικές της Ελληνικής Γεωργίας και στοχεύουν στην αναζήτηση νέας γνώσης και στην ανάπτυξη τεχνογνωσίας για την αύξηση της φυτικής παραγωγής και τη βελτίωση της ποιότητας των παραγομένων φυτικών προϊόντων μέσω της γενετικής βελτίωσης, της ορθολογικής θρέψης των φυτών, της προστασίας από εχθρούς και ασθένειες με τη χρήση ορθής γεωργικής πρακτικής, της μελέτης και της αξιοποίησης μικροοργανισμών, με γνώμονα την προστασία του περιβάλλοντος και την αύξηση της ανταγωνιστικότητας της ελληνικής γεωργίας και την ορθή άσκηση της μελισσοκομίας και σηροτροφίας για παραγωγή προϊόντων υψηλής ποιότητας. Τα 16 Εργαστήρια που απαρτίζουν το Τμήμα ΕΦΠ έχουν ερευνητική δραστηριότητα σε θέματα βασικής και εφαρμοσμένης έρευνας σε όλους τους επιστημονικούς τομείς ενδιαφέροντος του Τμήματος είτε αυτόνομα είτε σε άμεση συνεργασία μεταξύ τους καθώς και με Εργαστήρια άλλων Τμημάτων του ΓΠΑ ή άλλων ΑΕΙ της χώρας ή της αλλοδαπής.
3) Τι θα κάνω στα εργαστήρια του Τμήματος:
Στα 16 εργαστήρια του Τμήματος Επιστήμης Φυτικής Παραγωγής Τμήματός μας, αποκτάς πρακτικές γνώσεις και δεξιότητες που συμπληρώνουν την θεωρητική διδασκαλία. Οι εργαστηριακές ασκήσεις αφορούν στην εκμάθηση διαφόρων εργαστηριακών τεχνικών, αναλύσεων και μεθοδολογιών, στην πρακτική εφαρμογή των καλλιεργητικών και μελισσοκομικών και σηροτροφικών τεχνικών, των συστημάτων προστασίας των φυτών από εχθρούς, ασθένειες και ζιζάνια, στην εξοικείωση με τη χρήση μικροσκοπίου και την προετοιμασία-παρατήρηση παρασκευασμάτων, καθώς επίσης και των συστημάτων διαχείρισης-διατήρησης βιολογικών πόρων, προστασίας ή/και αναβάθμισης του περιβάλλοντος και του αστικού τοπίου.
4) Πώς μπορώ να γίνω φοιτητής στο Τμήμα ΕΦΠ;
Μέσω Πανελληνίων Εξετάσεων και 2 διαφορετικών επιστημονικών πεδίων.
Από το 2ο επιστημονικό πεδίο «Τεχνολογικών και Θετικών Σπουδών»,
Από το 3ο επιστημονικό πεδίο «Σπουδών Υγείας και Ζωής»,
5) Πόσο διαρκούν οι σπουδές στο ΓΠΑ;
Οι σπουδές στο ΓΠΑ διαρκούν 10 εξάμηνα (5 έτη) .
Εκτός από τα θεωρητικά μαθήματα και τις εργαστηριακές ασκήσεις, η φοίτηση περιλαμβάνει και τετράμηνη πρακτική άσκηση, που γίνεται συνήθως τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες μετά το 6ο εξάμηνο. Το τελευταίο εξάμηνο κάνεις την πτυχιακή σου μελέτη.
Τόσο η πρακτική άσκηση, όσο και η πτυχιακή μελέτη είναι υποχρεωτικές για να πάρεις το πτυχίο σου.
6) Τι είναι η πτυχιακή μελέτη;
Η πτυχιακή μελέτη σου δίνει τη δυνατότητα να προσεγγίσεις το αντικείμενο των σπουδών σου με ένα πιο ενεργητικό τρόπο: διαλέγεις, στο πλαίσιο των σπουδών σου, το επιστημονικό πεδίο που σ’ ενδιαφέρει περισσότερο και σε συνεργασία με τον επιβλέποντα καθηγητή ασχολείσαι με ένα ερευνητικό ερώτημα ή ένα πρακτικό πρόβλημα.
Η πτυχιακή μελέτη μπορεί να είναι πειραματική (να βασίζεται δηλ. στα αποτελέσματα πειράματος), ή σε ειδικές μόνο περιπτώσεις βιβλιογραφική (δηλ. να αφορά στην ανασκόπηση της βιβλιογραφίας σχετικά με ένα θέμα). Εκτός από τη γνώση που αποκομίζεις, σου δίνει τη δυνατότητα να αναλαμβάνεις πρωτοβουλίες και να δίνεις λύσεις. Μαθαίνεις πως και από που μπορείς να αντλείς τις σωστές πληροφορίες και πώς να ενημερώνεσαι για το αντικείμενο σου. Μαθαίνεις να συνεργάζεσαι με τους συμφοιτητές και τους καθηγητές σου και να επικοινωνείς τα αποτελέσματα της εργασίας σου. Εξελίσσεσαι επομένως και ωριμάζεις επιστημονικά.
Μετά την ολοκλήρωση της μελέτης σου, παρουσιάζεις τα συμπεράσματά της και βαθμολογείσαι ανάλογα.
7) Τι είναι η πρακτική άσκηση;
Σκοπός της πρακτικής άσκησης είναι η απόκτηση εμπειρίας στο αντικείμενο των σπουδών σου και η επαφή με την πράξη.
Μπορεί να γίνει σε διάφορες ιδιωτικές επιχειρήσεις ή δημόσιους φορείς στην Ελλάδα, ή ακόμη και στα Εργαστήρια του Τμήματος. Μέσα από Ευρωπαϊκά Προγράμματα, όπως Δια Βίου Μάθηση/Erasmus σου δίνεται η δυνατότητα να πραγματοποιήσεις την πρακτική σου άσκηση σε χώρες του εξωτερικού.
Η συνολική διάρκειά της είναι 4 μήνες και μπορεί να γίνει διακεκομμένα, συνήθως κατά τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες και μετά το 6ο εξάμηνο σπουδών, έτσι ώστε να έχεις ήδη μια πληρέστερη εικόνα και γνώση του αντικειμένου που σπουδάζεις.
8) Μπορώ να ακολουθήσω Πρόγραμμα Μεταπτυχιακών Σπουδών (ΠΜΣ) διαφορετικού τμήματος του ΓΠΑ ή άλλου εκπαιδευτικού ιδρύματος εκτός ΓΠΑ;
Ως πτυχιούχος ενός Τμήματος ΓΠΑ μπορείς να ακολουθήσεις όποιο ΠΜΣ επιθυμείς οποιουδήποτε Τμήματος ΓΠΑ ή όποιου άλλου εκπαιδευτικού Ιδρύματος εκτός του ΓΠΑ που δέχεται απόφοιτους Θετικών Επιστημών. Ενδεχομένως, εάν το αντικείμενο του Πτυχίου δεν είναι αντίστοιχο με εκείνο του ΠΜΣ που επιλέγεται, οι φοιτητές να υποχρεωθούν στην παρακολούθηση και επιτυχή εξέταση μαθημάτων που ορίζονται από την εκάστοτε Συντονιστική Επιτροπή κάθε ΠΜΣ, ώστε τελικά να μπορέσουν να ανταποκριθούν καλύτερα στο πρόγραμμα σπουδών του ΠΜΣ.
