Petros (Peter) A. Roussos

Brief Curriculum Vitae

He graduated in 1995 from the Department of Plant Production of the Agricultural University of Athens with a grade of 8.31/10. Throughout his studies, he was awarded a performance-based scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation, and he also received the Chrysocheirion Award for his outstanding performance in the courses of the Pomology Laboratory.

In 1996, he began his PhD at the Pomology Laboratory of the Agricultural University of Athens under the supervision of Professor Konstantinos Pontikis, with the thesis entitled: “Factors affecting the in vitro propagation of olive (cv. Koroneiki)”. In 2001, he successfully completed his doctoral studies and was awarded a PhD in Agricultural Sciences.

In 2002, he was employed at the company HellaPharm in the Department of Registrations and Experimental Research, where he served as Deputy Study Director of the certified laboratory for conducting agricultural experiments in accordance with GLP standards until 2006. In the same year, he assumed duties as a Lecturer at the Pomology Laboratory of the Agricultural University of Athens. Since 2021, he has been a Professor in the same laboratory, and he served as its Director until September 2025.

He has published more than 50 papers in international journals and conferences, as well as in Greek conferences, and he was recognized as a top reviewer for 2006 by the international journal Scientia Horticulturae. He is a member of the editorial boards of several international journals and was included in the top 2% of scientists worldwide in his field for the years 2021, 2023, and 2024. Since 2026, he has also been a full member of the Hellenic Agricultural Academy.

He teaches the courses Special Pomology (Deciduous Fruit Trees), Olive Cultivation and Citrus (olive cultivation section), as well as Propagation of Fruit Trees and Shrubs, and the postgraduate courses “Anatomical, physiological and biochemical aspects of asexual propagation of horticultural plants” and “Special topics in olive cultivation”.

His expertise lies in olive cultivation and plant propagation. His research interests also include the response of fruit trees to climate change and abiotic stress factors, as well as methods for mitigating their effects.

His office is located at the Pomology Laboratory (main building, Administration Building, 1st floor, next to the Rectorate).
