Learning results

After completing the course, it is expected that students will be able to:

To know the content, history and theoretical foundations of the concept of Social Economy and Politics.

To understand the content of the concepts that often frame the study of Social Economy and Politics.

To know the beginnings of the theoretical debate on Social Economy and Politics and to understand the weight that the older approaches have in today's debate.

To know the basic theoretical and epistemological assumptions and the central arguments of the modern approaches of Social Economy and Politics.

To know the different approaches of the social economy and politics and their spatial dimensions.

To plan at the community level and wider scales the organization of the Social economy and politics with a view to the production of social innovations.

To distinguish the different political sign of public policies as designed and implemented in specific countries.

To know the factors that shape the specific public policies as well as the objectives of the latter.

To contribute to the design and implementation of public policies for the Social Economy

The course focuses on the relationship of Social Economy and Politics with local/community and more generally spatial development at all scales, a series of approaches to Politics are critically analyzed, emphasizing their spatial and socio-economic dimensions. The Social and Solidarity Economy has been introduced into the public debate with the support of different actors with often opposing political views and practices such as the European Commission, national governments with different political orientations, but also social movements against austerity policies. Also, the aim of the course is to utilize the experience of other countries in the promotion of the Social Economy in order to provide the necessary knowledge for the training of executives who will be able to contribute to the design of public policies for the Social Economy in Greece.
