Irini Axarli is a graduate of the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology of AUA (1997-2002), holder of a Master's Degree in Biotechnology of the same Department (2002-2004). She completed her PhD thesis at the Laboratory of Enzyme Technology of AUA (2005-2008). From 2009 to 2021 she was a permanent employee of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, working in the Virology and Genetically Modified Seed Laboratories where she was Head of Service for 2 years. From 2021 to 2023 she was at the Horticulture Department of the Directorate of Farmland Utilization and Agricultural Facilities of AUA. Currently, she is a member of the Laboratory Teaching Staff (LTE) in the Laboratory of Enzyme Technology of the Department of Biotechnology of AUA with the subject "Enzymology". Her research interests focus on the study of the mechanism and kinetic behaviour of enzymes by applying methods of enzyme engineering and structural biology.
