Network Operations Department of AUA was established in 1997 as the core objective of the EU project titled “Development of Advanced Telematics Services” within the framework of E.P.E.A.E.K. Among its primary goals was the upgrade and expansion of the AUA telematics network infrastructure and the development and implementation of new technologies and information management services. During the run of the project, both the educational/research activities of the University and its administrative functions were substantially enhanced through the use of emerging telematic services. These objectives are constantly updated, expanded, adapted, and upgraded taking into account modern technological developments.
Today, all the scientific, research, technical and administrative staff of the University as well as all undergraduate, postgraduate students and doctoral candidates have access to the Internet, both basic and advanced network services as well as modern information systems. Examples include (but not limited to) directory services, email, dynamic web hosting services, blogs, modern asynchronous e-learning and teleconferencing platforms, digital asset repository and real-time video and audio streaming services. An integrated Studies Support System is in productive operation, as well as information systems for administrative applications, such as, among others, electronic document workflows, financial services, payroll and personnel management. Through the use of the Studies Support System, the teaching staff, the classified administrative staff, the secretariats of the Schools - Departments but also all the undergraduate and postgraduate students, can manage all functions that concern the educational process. Examples include student enrollment, semester enrollment, course registrations, grading, issuance of certificates and statements, academic ID and nutrition card management, textbook and software provisioning, and many other functions. All these services are readily accessible by Single Sign-On so AAI is greatly simplified.
Network Operations Department is staffed with technically adept personnel that maintain a high level of support to the academic community, always striving to keep information systems and network services relevant to the needs of its users, considering current technological developments and best practices in the field of IT.
