Optional Courses

Besides the compulsory courses of the curriculum, the Foreign Languages Office regularly offers language and terminology courses, sometimes in collaboration with AUA departments. Students are informed about the offered courses and the relevant registration process at the beginning of each semester.

 NEW COURSE! CONVERSATION HOUR

“Conversation Hour” is a new course introduced in winter semester 2015-2016 and focuses on helping students with their speaking skills working in small groups (B2 – C2 level).

The course (1 hour/week) focuses on a wider range of agricultural topics and through various activities aims at fluency and free communication in English.

As the course has been very popular and enjoyable, it is offered again in winter semester 2016-2017.

PREPARATION COURSES FOR THE NATIONAL FOREIGN LANGUGAE EXAM SYSTEM (KPG)

During the academic year 2008-2009 the AUA Foreign Languages Office in collaboration with the Department of English Studies of the University of Athens took part in a pilot programme on preparation courses for the National Foreign Language Exam (KPG). Our participants have been very successful, achieving pass rates, and hence the FLO, in consultation with the Deputy Rector for Academic Studies & Personnel, may continue to offer relevant courses open to all the academic community.

Since 2010-2011 the FLO has offered optional courses on various topics and of various lengths.

ADVANCED SPEAKING SKILLS BASED ON MEDIA SITES 

The course aims at improving speaking skills through analysis and discussion of videos and other Internet media.

Academic English Course- ACADEMIC READING AND WRITING

The course focuses on reading and writing skills in a university environment: how to write short academic essays effectively, dealing with references, writing a CV and covering letter. Strategies for scan and skim reading are also included.

 Academic Speaking & Listening - PRESENTATION SKILLS

The course focuses on participating in discussions and giving presentations.

READING CLUB

A book or movie discussion group. Participants can come together and talk about books or movies dealing with agricultural topics.

Subject-specific COURSE BASED ON AGRICULTURE

The Foreign Languages Office has organized a short course on “Irrigation Systems” in collaboration with the Dept. of Natural Resources Management & Agricultural engineering.
