SUMMER SCHOOL 2024

Dear Partners,

We are writing to inform you that the University of Almeria has opened the inscriptions to the Summer School! As a university at the forefront of the fight against climate change we offer short intensive programs in the fields of ecology, biotechnology, horticulture and blue economy. We think that some courses might be of special interest for your students:

Eco-friendly potential of environmental Microorganisms: bioremediation and bio recovery [1] (8 ECTS)

Three weeks program (July 8th – July 26th) in Environmental Biotechnology to research and carry out solutions to minimize or eliminate environmental pollution and anthropogenic waste. The main area of study is related to the use of alternative and more respectful industrial processes (from minimum “zero waste” to the use of waste as raw materials and the replacement of non-renewable resources by renewable ones.

Training in microalgae related industrial processes [2] (6 ECTS)

One week intensive program (July 1st  –  July 5th) about microalgae-based processes (such as modelling of strains and light utilization, design and operation of photobioreactors, harvesting and processing of the biomass). Lecturers will share their knowledge in bioeconomy, climate change and sustainability of the industrial processes.

As a reference institution in blue economy, we offer a course in Estrategias avanzadas en economía marina y sostenibilidad [3] which presents innovative solutions ranging from aquaculture, implementation of renewable energies, to the sustainable management of coastal tourism.
The University of Almería is also proud to announce a program in Horticultura protegida sostenible. Sistemas de cultivo sin suelo e hidroponía [4], a reference course on hydroponic growing systems to develop clean and environmentally sustainable agricultural systems.
