Ashok K. Mishra is a Professor and the Kemper and Ethel Marley Foundation Chair in Food Management at the Morrison School of Agribusiness, Arizona State University (ASU). His research focuses on agribusiness, finance, food security, public policy, and labor economics. Prior to joining ASU, Ashok served as Donald E. Welge Endowed Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness at Louisiana State University (2007-2015), and he was a senior economist at the Economic Research Service (1997-2007). Ashok holds a PhD in Economics from North Carolina State University (1996), a M.Sc. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Aberdeen, UK (1990), and a B.Sc. in Agri. Animal Husbandry from G.B. Pant Univ. of Ag. Tech., India.

Since joining the AAEA in 1989, Ashok has demonstrated his commitment to the association through years of service and engagement. Ashok has taken on multiple leadership roles, serving as chair of several sections, including Agricultural Finacne and Management (2014-2015), Applied Risk Analysis (2020-21), South Asia Section (2022-23), Secretary-Treasurer, International Economics Section (2016—2019), as well as several AAEA standing committees including the Employment Committee (2019-2022), Economics Statistics Information and Research Committee (2014-15), and Selected Papers Committee (2008-2009). He has been actively involved in fundraising for the AAEA through the initiation and establishment of six AAEA Appreciation Clubs. Ashok also served as a member of the C-FARE Board (2014-16) & AAEA Trust Committee (2016-2018; 2021-23). He has served as editor/co-editor for Agricultural Economics, AEPP, JAAE, JADEE, and associate editor of Agricultural Finance Review & Land Use Policy.

Ashok has received several research and teaching awards, including outstanding journal article awards in the AJAE, AFR, JAAE, and CAER. In 2022, Ashok was awarded Fellow of the AAEA and is also a Fellow of the WAEA. Ashok’s scholarly engagement extends into the policy sector, serving on advisory committees for agricultural projects at the European Commission, and is a Research Fellow at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).
