Dr. Kosmidis has a Degree from the Higher Agricultural School of Athens (1984) and Doctorate degree from the Agricultural University of Athens (1995). His research work is categorized into the following fields: 1) In the Population Genetics of the olive fruit fly using enzymatic polymorphisms and molecular techniques in natural and laboratory populations, in an effort to answer some critical evolutionary questions and to organize a biological control system for the insect. 2) In the study of the mechanisms that confer and maintain the resistance of the olive fruit fly to insecticides. 3) In the study of the relationship between the olive fruit fly and the symbiotic bacterium Candidatus Erwinia dacicola, aimed at the biological control of the insect. 4) In the screening and study of genetic polymorphisms that can be associated with the occurrence of diseases in humans.
