Petros Giastas is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at the Agricultural University of Athens, specializing in "Biochemistry with Applications in Biotechnology." He obtained his PhD from the Department of Chemistry at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, focusing on the molecular structure of proteins. He conducted postdoctoral research for 14 years, primarily at the Departments of Biochemistry and Neurobiology of the Hellenic Pasteur Institute and, to a lesser extent, at the Protein Chemistry Laboratory of NCSR Demokritos. His research interests focus on the biochemical study of proteins, with a particular emphasis on the relationship between structure and function. His teaching responsibilities include the undergraduate courses "Biochemistry of Biomolecules" and "Molecular Recognition" in the Department of Biotechnology. In the current period, he is the supervisor of four PhD students and has supervised ten undergraduate diploma theses. His research has been published in 41 papers in high-impact scientific journals and has received 860 citations, with an h-index of 18 (source: Scopus, link). The results of his research have been presented in over 50 talks or conference proceedings, and he has participated in the organization of national and international scientific conferences. Since 2024, he has been elected President of the Hellenic Crystallographic Association and serves as a reviewer for numerous scientific journals. He has participated in 12 national and European research projects either as a collaborating researcher or as a principal investigator.
