Eleni Douni is a Professor specializing in "Animal Biotechnology" at the Department of Biotechnology, Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), and an Affiliate Professor at the Institute for Bioinnovation, Biomedical Sciences Research Center (BSRC) "Alexander Fleming." She is the Director of the Laboratory of Genetics (2024), the Deputy Dean of the School of Applied Biology and Biotechnology at AUA, and the Deputy Chair of the Department of Biotechnology at AUA (2022). Since 2019, she has also been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute for Bioinnovation at BSRC "Alexander Fleming."
She earned her degree and PhD, both with distinction, from the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). Her research focuses on studying pathophysiological mechanisms in osteoporosis, breast cancer, and bone metastases by modeling human diseases in mice, aiming to develop and preclinically evaluate new targeted therapies using cutting-edge innovative technologies. Eleni Douni has a robust teaching portfolio at both undergraduate (History of Modern Biology, Genetics, Special Topics in Modern Genetics, Immunology, Animal Biotechnology, Genetics of Human Diseases) and postgraduate levels (participation in 8 MSc programs). She has supervised 12 doctoral theses, 8 master's theses, and over 70 undergraduate theses. Her research has been published in over 55 articles in high-impact scientific journals and books, accumulating more than 3,500 citations with an h-index of 27 (Scopus). Additionally, her research findings have been presented in over 200 talks and presentations at scientific conferences. She has also contributed to organizing national and international conferences. She serves as a reviewer for numerous scientific journals and funding bodies and has participated in over 20 national and European research projects as a coordinator or collaborating researcher.
