Dr. Eleni N. Kavetsou is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Food Science and
Human Nutrition at the Agricultural University of Athens. She is a Chemical Engineer
(National Technical University of Athens, 2008–2013), holds a Master’s degree in
“Techno-Economic Systems (MBA)” from the University of Piraeus & NTUA, and a PhD in
Synthetic Organic Chemistry and Nanotechnology (NTUA). Her doctoral research was
supported by scholarships from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) for
postgraduate studies in Greece (MIS-5003404) and the Special Account for Research
Funding of NTUA. She also carried out part of her research activity at the Royal Institute
of Technology in Stockholm (KTH University) in 2021.
In 2026, she received research funding from HFRI (ELIDEK) for the implementation of a
two-year research project (2026–2028), for which she serves as the Principal
Investigator. From 2019 to 2025, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher on 18
national and European research projects (EPAnEK 2014–2020 & HORIZON 2020), while
also contributing to the development of new innovative commercial products based on
natural products, in collaboration with Greek companies (Benostan, CHRISTOU 1910).
In addition, she participated in COST Action CA18132, as a Management Committee
substitute. She is a reviewer for international scientific journals and has served as a
Topic Editor and Guest Editor for the international scientific journal “Pharmaceutics”.
Her research interests focus on: (a) the synthesis of natural product analogues using
environmentally friendly methodologies and the study of structure–biological activity
relationships (natural products chemistry, heterocyclic chemistry, and medicinal
chemistry); (b) the optimization of innovative extraction methods for natural products
from plant raw materials; and (c) the development of micro-/nanomaterials (polymeric,
lipid, inorganic, and hybrid nanoparticles, as well as hydrogels) for biomedical
applications (drug delivery systems), cosmetics, and food applications. Part of her
research work has been published in peer-reviewed international journals (24
publications), with an h-index of 13 and > 650 citations, and she has participated and
received awards at 68 national and international conferences.
