4311. Forest Mensuration

Course Content

Principles of measurement applied to trees and forest stands, including length, diameter, basal area, and volume. Methods for measuring standing and felled trees, stand measurements, age and growth estimation, sampling techniques, and the use of forest instruments, with field applications in local forest ecosystems.

Learning Results

Students will gain a basic understanding in
- estimating the quantity of wood products
- estimating linear dimensions of trees
- applying appropriate mathematical formulae to predict standing volume
- using scientific instruments for recording basic dendrometric characteristics
- designing a forest inventory plan.

The Department of Forestry and Natural Environment Management joined the Faculty of Plant Sciences of the AUA. The Department operates from the academic year 2019-2020 and is based in Tthe city of Karpenisi. Housed in the building facilities of the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment Management of the former Technical Scool (TEI)  of Central Greece.
