4712. Forest Genetics

Course Content

Fundamental concepts of genetics, molecular basis of heredity and genome organization, gene structure and regulation, gamete formation, Mendelian and population genetics, genetic markers, quantitative genetics, and the role of genetic diversity and forest management in the productivity and sustainability of forest ecosystems.

Learning Results

After the lectures and exercises within the course, the student will be able to:

  • To know basic concepts of genetics and how they are related to forest ecosystems
  • To use basic genetic tools that could be used in the study, improvement and protection of forest ecosystems.

The Department of Forestry and Natural Environment Management joined the Faculty of Plant Sciences of the AUA. The Department operates from the academic year 2019-2020 and is based in Tthe city of Karpenisi. Housed in the building facilities of the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment Management of the former Technical Scool (TEI)  of Central Greece.
