4113. Meteorology and Climatology

Course Content

Basic principles of meteorology and climatology, including atmospheric structure, solar radiation, air and soil temperature, pressure systems, winds and air masses, atmospheric moisture and precipitation, and other weather phenomena. Climate classification and types, meteorological stations and instruments, and analysis and presentation of climatic and bioclimatic data and indices.

Learning Results

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to:

  • Understand the methodology for installing forest meteorological stations and using meteorological instruments.
  • Apply methods for processing climatic and bioclimatic data to prepare forestry, ecological, and environmental studies.
  • Collaborate with fellow students to create and present a framework plan for a climatological-bioclimatological study, which, in their future work as foresters, can form part of a study or project related to ecology, environment, management, or other relevant fields.

The Department of Forestry and Natural Environment Management joined the Faculty of Plant Sciences of the AUA. The Department operates from the academic year 2019-2020 and is based in Tthe city of Karpenisi. Housed in the building facilities of the Department of Forestry and Natural Environment Management of the former Technical Scool (TEI)  of Central Greece.
