Description
The Prefecture of Evrytania, covering an area of 1,869 km² and with a population of 20,081 (2011 census), is located in the heart of Central Greece at the southern end of the Pindus mountain range. It is one of the most mountainous prefectures in the country, with forests and wooded areas covering 85% of its total area. It is distinguished by its diverse, rich, and varied natural environment, its abundant fauna and flora, and the variety of its natural landscapes.
The prefectural capital, Karpenisi, has a population of 7,183, is situated at an altitude of 1,000 meters, and is 78 km from Lamia, 111 km from Agrinio, and 294 km from Athens.
