Announcement of PhD Candidate Positions

ANNOUNCEMENT – CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

The Department of Agricultural Economics and Development of the Agricultural University of Athens intends to fill the following PhD candidate positions without financial remuneration, with immediate start:

  • One (1) PhD candidate position in the field of "Use of Virtual and/or Augmented Reality in Agricultural Education" under the supervision of Prof. Sotirios Karetsos, Associate Professor (karetsos@aua.gr). (karetsos@aua.gr).
  • Two (2) PhD candidate positions in the field of "Business Strategy and Entrepreneurship in the Agri-Food Sector," supervised by Ms. Sofia Angelidou, Associate Professor ( Professor (s.angelidou@aua.gr).
  • One (1) position for a doctoral candidate in the field of "Landscape and Agri-Food" with supervising professor Mr. Evangelos Pavlis, Associate Professor (epavlis@aua.gr).

Candidates must:

a) Be graduates of Economics, Natural Sciences or a related subject with a first degree or a related Master's Degree (MD) with TAOA.

b) Hold a Master's Degree from a Greek university or a recognized equivalent from a foreign institution, or a single and uninterrupted degree in the research and teaching subjects of the TAO or those most closely related to them, which promote the academic interdisciplinary character of the TAO.

c) Have a grade of at least "very good" in their Master's Degree.

d) Have certification of knowledge of the English language at least at the Lower level.

Applications will be reviewed by an Evaluation Committee (EC) for each subject area to ensure that the formal qualifications are complete, and candidates will be invited for an interview. The TAO Assembly, following a recommendation by the EA, will decide on the acceptance of applications after considering the following main criteria:

  • Academic performance.
  • Proven good knowledge of the English language.
  • Proven good knowledge of computers.
  • Work experience and/or participation in programs/studies and/or additional studies (or training) in subjects related to the subject of the advertised positions.
  • Any other information relevant to the subject area of the position.

The call for expressions of interest will be posted on the website of the Agricultural University of Athens (www.aua.gr) and in the announcements section of the Department's website.

Interested candidates may submit their applications and supporting documents electronically from 23/12/2024 to 31/01/2025 to the Secretariat of the TAO (saoa@aua.gr) (tel. 210 5294742). Candidates must submit an online application, which must include, among other things: a) the degree/postgraduate degree grade and type of degrees, b) recognized English language proficiency certificates (e.g., State Language Proficiency Certificate, GCE, GCSE, Cambridge Proficiency, TOEFL), c) the proposed language of the dissertation, d) the proposed title (in Greek or English), and e) the proposed supervisor of the doctoral dissertation.

Applications must be accompanied by the following supporting documents:

a) A brief draft of the doctoral thesis of up to two pages (written in Greek or English) relevant to the subject of the announcement.

b) Detailed curriculum vitae.

c) Copy of a degree or diploma from a Greek university or one recognized as equivalent from a foreign university and detailed academic transcript.

d) Copy of a postgraduate degree from a Greek university or a foreign university recognized as equivalent, and detailed transcript of grades.

e) Certificate of proficiency in English.

f) Two (2) letters of recommendation from members of the teaching staff of Greek universities or professors from abroad, in a sealed envelope from the recommender or sent electronically to the email address of the TAO secretariat.

g) A solemn declaration in which the candidate states that they have not been accepted to pursue a doctoral thesis at another university in Greece or abroad.
