Nurturing an entrepreneurial culture in agribusiness

5. Business challenges, creativity and design thinking in the agrifood industry

6. Skills for innovation and entrepreneurship. Building a cross-disciplinary management team. the development of a context-sensitive agrifood entrepreneurial skills framework (Anastasopoulou, Marentakis & Trivellas, 2024).

7. Social & Green entrepreneurship in the agrifood ecosystem. Carbon footprint evaluation.

8.The relationship between competitiveness, entrepreneurship and innovation in the agrifood sector. Case studies (e.g. light products, food DNA, biofunctional food and beverages, organic food, GMO).

9. Smart farming and the role of agribusiness in digital entrepreneurship. Sustainability impact assessment. Case studies (e.g. precision agriculture, censoring & IoT, drones, early warning systems, satellite images processing, smart packaging).

12. New trends & Special topics: Transforming ecosystems (small scale agrifood producers) & social resilience of regional food ecosystems.

Learning results

The aim of the course is to:  

  • examine the key concepts of entrepreneurship and innovation by focusing on applications in agribusiness. 
  • recognise the dimensions, legal framework and forms of entrepreneurship and innovation in agribusiness. 
  • highlight the skills required for preparing relevant plans and proposals. 

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: 

  • explain the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation. 
  • describe the different choices of entrepreneurship and innovation in agribusiness. 
  • distinguish opportunities in food markets and in agriculture and food industries. 
  • assess the internal and external environment of the agribusinesses and organizations involved. 
  • plan the implementation map in the agricultural sector.

The Department was created in 2019 (article 20, Law 4589/2019) and is an evolution of the Supply Systems Management Department (D.S.E.). Housed in a 770 sq.m. building. within a plot with a total area of 8,000 sq.m. in facilities with extensive research and teaching spaces.
