Brief Curriculum Vitae

About
Panagiotis D. Oikonomou joined the Department of Natural Resources Development and Agricultural Engineering at the Agricultural University of Athens in 2023 as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Water Resources Management, with an emphasis on Hydroinformatics and Stressed Water Systems. Prior to joining the Agricultural University of Athens, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Colorado Water Institute as well as at the University of Vermont, where he subsequently assumed a Research Assistant Professor position in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources Planning and Management from Colorado State University.
His research develops next-generation computational methods for understanding, forecasting, and managing complex water and environmental systems under climate change. Working at the intersection of water resources engineering, hydroinformatics, and systems science, he integrates process-based models, Earth observations, artificial intelligence, data assimilation, and systems analysis to improve environmental forecasting and decision support. His research spans hydrology, water quality, climate resilience, hydroinformatics, and environmental systems, with applications ranging from integrated early warning systems and digital water systems to the sustainable management of interconnected Water–Energy–Food–Ecosystem (WEFE) resources. His long-term research vision is to advance resilient, intelligent, and operational environmental forecasting systems that support water resources management.
